GOD CALLS LEADERS

deaconordinationThis past Sunday our church was privileged to ordain into ministry three great men of God.  God’s call is evident in their lives and It was such a joy and very motivating to hear testimony and affirmation of their call.  God has called these men no doubt.

Being a part of that service made me think about leadership and how leaders are raised up and used in the church. I believe that it is God himself who raises up leaders. Natural leadership skills or experience is not quite enough to accomplish what God desires in His Kingdom.  I believe it is through the power of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit that God raises up leaders that make a difference.  J. Oswald Sanders states in Spiritual Leadership, “Spiritual leadership requires superior supernatural power, which can never be generated by the self.”  This is a reminder that we cannot conjure up our call to serve, we cannot mask our own abilities and call them spiritual gifts.  Just because we may have some talent or success at other areas of life, we must rely on the  transforming power of the Holy Spirit to empower ministry and leadership that makes a difference.

The reality of needing God’s power should challenge us to seek him, to allow the power of God to work in our lives.  We must be willing, pure and holy vessels, ready to serve and lead.  Leadership can often be mistaken for a big personality, or someone who is charismatic, or even just someone with a lot of experience.  Effective spiritual leadership is seen when God shows up.

Whatever area of ministry you find your self doing or leading, rely on the power of God to accomplish it. The results will be eternal.

See you in church!
