Today marks one year since my dad went on to be with the Lord. It has been quite a year and life has moved very quickly. As the year has went on, I have honestly healed some from the loss. You never get used to your dad being gone, however the blessings of this life including my wife, my boys, my mom, my sister and family, and my church all have provided space to have ups, downs and work through our new reality.  I am deeply thankful for all the people who have shown the love of Christ to us.

I am just now getting ready to go to the cemetery with my mom to visit my dads graveside. I know that will be hard and will flood my mind with more and more memories of my dad. However, I will also have the opportunity to honor him once again. One of the greatest commandments in scripture is to honor your father and mother. The commandment is such a great reminder that honoring our parents matters. It matters to God. I choose to honor my mom and dad in life and death. I can honor my dad by loving my mom, serving her and looking out for her. I can honor my dad by living how he taught me to. He taught me through his life to live simply. He loved the little things and loved his family.

If someone would describe me that way, I would be honored. I pray that God uses me to be like my dad in perseverance, faith, and simplicity.  I honor him today and am humbled by God’s grace and compassion.

I am a husband to the best wife in the world, father to the best sons in the world, have pastored some of the best people in the world and taught some of the best students in the world. Oh and I am loved by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords....Jesus Christ. I would say life is good.
