This month is set aside in the Christian world as Pastor Appreciation Month. From my experience as a Pastor, I want to encourage you to consider what most pastors desire when it comes to the people of the church. Take the opportunity this month to show your appreciation to your pastor, but think through what he desires! From my experience, Pastors certainly enjoy gifts, money, cards etc…. but Pastor’s that I know desire something a little less obvious. There are four things you can do to show appreciation to your pastor.
1. Pray for him and his family. You pastor needs spiritual strength and protection. Their battle is not against people but against the enemy of this world. Your pastor is constantly attacked spiritually and values your prayers for his strength.
2. Understand what your pastor does. There is nothing more discouraging than when someone makes a joke about how little a pastor works. Often we laugh along with you, but being questioned for our commitment or work ethic really hurts. Pastors have a unique job and responsibility.
3. Support him. Your pastor needs your support for his decisions, his vision and the plans God has given him. He doesn’t want blind support, but a willingness to do ministry cheering each other on. We have all heard too many people run down their pastor and not support him. That is a sad, discouraging reality. Make sure you are your pastor’s biggest supporter!
4. Be faithful to your church. Be the strongest, most committed and faithful servant you can be. There is nothing more encouraging to your pastor then to see you growing and serving the Lord faithfully. Be at church regularly; be at the big events of the church. Your pastor will be there and seeing you there will remind him that he is not in this alone.
It is a privilege to serve my church and your pastor feels the same. We appreciate you and all you do for the kingdom of God. The church is a beautiful creation of God. God has called your pastor to serve your church. Remind him this month of how much you appreciate him. It will make a difference.
We so appreciate you and your family Pastor Darrell. Your obedience to the Holy Spirit, Your standing on God’s Holy Word and your love, sacrifice and compassion for winning souls for Christ is truly an anointing from God. You are always in our prayers. Sincerely, Jeffery Jackson and Family. +
