Today while I was driving to an appoinment I was listening to sports talk radio. The announcer noted that Jason Collins, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/29/jason-collins-comes-out-gay_n_3178401.html?ir=Sports professional basketball player, let the world know that he is openly homosexual. He is the first in professional organized athletics to make this assertion. Certainly he is not the first homosexual sports player but the first to offically comment on it.
Now, obviously homosexuality is sinful and not in God’s plan for his people. In fact Romans 1 speaks about the depravity of men and women and how far they fall from Gods standard. I am neither shocked nor really suprised about this announcement. I am however troubled by a culture that continues to make sin and tolerance a virture. My worry is not for the world but for the church. It seems like the church always follow suit in making tolerance a virture and before we know it we stand for nothing and are nothing.
I do not have anything against Jason Collins, I don’t know him. However, I want to with clarity remind us today that Homosexuality nor the support of homosexuality is neither wise nor virtuous. May we pray for Mr. Collins and our culture that thinks they are wise but have been fooled.
God help us.
Pastor Darrell
